What else should one do on a free November weekend, when it is 8C outside? Camp of course! That's what Jeremy, myself, and friends Dan & Carrie Wyllys did on the second weekend of November. We hiked about 35 minutes OFF THE BEATEN PATH to our perfectly slanted camping sight, high on a hill. We set up camp and roasted some interesting tomato basil sausages over our dangerously large campfire, played with rabid raccoons and spoke of philosophical and theological things for hours. Then after an eventful game of Rook, where absolutely no cheating took place, we called it a night - or did we? Oh no - at exactly 3:24am we all woke to the sound of something crashing through the woods! It was coming straight for us! Was it a bear or a ghost or an alien (I guess you had to be there)?? "SNORT"! And then silence. "GRRRRRRR", Bailey's deep low growl cut the silence like a hot knife cutting butter. It was eerie. Moments later the crashing of the wild animal began again, it became quieter and quieter as it galloped through the woods. Carrie & I thought that it was a bear but my big and tuff husband assured us it was just a buck. Sigh! And as everyone else froze themselves back to sleep I silently slept in my little cocoon, warm & happy to have Carrie on one side, Jeremy on the other and a dog at my feet!
